Credit Manager

Position Purpose:         

The Credit Manager is responsible for the management of the credit underwriting analytical process as well as completing all analytical functions for assigned branches. As a key contributor within the overall credit function, the Credit Manager will assist Credit Administration with technological and system changes, collaborate with others to research and review proposed changes and rollouts.  Must ensure an accurate analytical processing system while overseeing the ongoing management of credit analysis, credit analysts, and workflow systems. Must provide ongoing analysis and credit underwriting training to subordinates.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with policies and procedures as well as federal and state laws.
  • Identify, develop, and recommend revision of internal standards and new programs to improve efficiency. Ensure quantifiable measurements are in place to evaluate overall production levels. Provide staff with clear and concise direction, as well as minimize losses through effective internal controls. Keep abreast of new and changing technologies within the credit analysis function to ensure an efficient and up-to-date analysis process is maintained.
  • Establish, maintain, and manage quality credit analysis processes related to commercial, consumer, and real estate credit requests including origination, analysis, and approval. Assists in gathering necessary information for credit review and regulatory exams.
  • Maintain and recommend process and procedures to ensure the integrity of the Bank’s credit portfolio credit analysis and review/approval process and systems.
  • Maintain processes and procedures necessary to ensure the system accuracy of risk rating commercial, consumer, and real estate credits.
  • Ensure accurate preparation of commercial, consumer, and real estate credit presentations and documentation. Manage all credit analysis functions, including proper credit request risk analysis, ordering proper documentation for different credit requests, and verifying closing documentation.
  • Produce and create credit management reports to monitor analyst productivity and work flow reports.
  • Resolve complex and sensitive credit operation and customer servicing issues.
  • Assure quality customer service to all internal and external credit customers. Work closely with others to resolve system issues between Credit Administration, Operations, Production and all other areas of the Bank. 
  • Be functionally accountable for a credit portfolio and provide assistance to subordinate analyst’s branches when necessary.
  • Allocate resources to support projects throughout the all areas of the credit function.
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with others to ensure a seamless transition between old and new credit systems and procedures.
  • Abide by all policies, procedures and regulations of UP.
  • Review, acknowledge, and comply with all end user security requirements stated in the Information Security – End User Policy and Statement of Understanding.
  • Utilize all communication tools available including, but not limited to; UPLink, email, and instant messaging.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned by management.  

Job Specifications:

Strong attention to detail, must embrace change, effective at prioritization, multi-tasking, effective oral and written communications skills. Ability to exercise professional judgment and demonstrate independent decision-making skills based on the Bank’s philosophy of profitability, quality, and then growth. Capacity to create and present sophisticated reports systems and findings to upper level management. A strong aptitude to build relationships and rapport within UPB. High degree of confidentiality and professionalism.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Job Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required to establish goals, direct and evaluate staff; interact with employees, industry third parties, and outside vendors; make recommendations; prepare reports; and conduct meetings.
  • Tactical, as well as strategic thinker, with excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to communication and management.
  • Excellent organization, project management, execution and delivery skills. Must be able to multi-task with frequent interruptions; be comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment; and manage multiple projects meeting critical deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge of state, federal, and regulatory requirements related to consumer and commercial credit documentation preparation, processing, perfection, and the reporting standards.
  • Knowledge of credit system processing and related reporting options, as well as thorough knowledge of bank operations.
  • Proficiency in software including, but not limited to Microsoft (Word, Outlook, and Excel) Fiserv and Moody’s Lending Cloud programs.
